Alexandra Dawes, Accountant
After completing my BBA at Camosun College, I started my accounting career working in public practice in Victoria, BC focusing on Canadian and cross border tax. This was more of a “traditional” route for accountants to pursue their CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant designation), and I eventually realized I needed something more fun and modern! I ended up starting a position with a virtual accounting firm where I found my passion in helping startups as I completed my CPA. After a few years of gaining incredible experience, I realized that I wanted to do more work with local companies and decided to create my own accounting firm, Virtual CFO Solutions (VCFO).
I've now been working as a Virtual CFO with VCFO for a year and half and focus on helping startups and small businesses with all things finance! I work mainly with Victoria based businesses but can work with companies across Canada (and beyond) on a remote basis. This role has been extremely important to me because I believe there is a huge need for modernized financial systems and processes for small businesses looking to grow and take their business to the next level.
So, what exactly is VCFO? Our particular expertise lies in helping newer businesses in the online space, whether it’s software, digital services, or e-commerce. As a young, growing business that VCFO is, we understand what you’re going through. We have the experience and the tools to help you stay in control of your finances, improve cashflow, and keep business owners happy. As your Chief Financial Officer or CFO for short, we handle everything from bookkeeping and payroll up to forecasting and strategic planning. The “Virtual” part means we can pretty much do it anywhere!
So, what now? The possibility within my business and my career is endless and I love that I can decide what I want to do and when. This was never my experience when I first started out as an accountant and I want to make sure other young women get the opportunity to experience this too!
