Kiara Grant, Software Engineer

Kiara is a software engineer, early in her career. While she was still a few months away from finishing her undergraduate degree, she interned in a special internship from Microsoft called “The Garage”. She had a unique experience, working with a small team of other interns to develop a software project from scratch, taking it through the stages of design, development, testing, and refinement. She was left with a positive impression of Microsoft, and started a fulltime position at the company.

Before starting at Microsoft, Kiara studied at UBC, where she got a Bachelor of Science with a combined major in Computer Science and Chemistry. During her time at UBC, she also had the opportunity to work in a research lab studying chemical physics, and completed a thesis. Specifically, she studied the behaviour of ultracold plasmas, which are essentially gases cooled down to less than 5 Kelvin, that are then excited by lasers to turn into plasma, a conductive, high energy gas.

In her free time, Kiara enjoys volunteering as a Girl Guide leader, environmental activism, playing board games, and language learning (Mandarin and American Sign Language at the moment). She loves mentoring people and would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
