Nav Hothi, RCMP Inspector
Supt Hothi was born in Dartford, UK and moved to Merritt BC with her family as an infant. After graduating high school, Supt Hothi attended the University of British Columbia in 1988 where her love of science led to completing her BSc in Cell and Developmental Biology. At a crossroads in her career path, she met with a career counselling firm where she was encouraged to look towards public service as a career. At an RCMP information session, Nav learned of the roles of police officers as forensic specialists and a decision was made. Nav joined the RCMP in September 1996 and was first posted to Surrey Det. After four exciting and rewarding years of Frontline Policing, Nav entered the Forensics field in May 2001. During her time in forensics, Nav has been involved in large investigations, both locally such as the Willie Picton serial murder investigation, and internationally, including a deployment to Southeast Asia to aid in Disaster Victim Identification after the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami that devastated the area in 2004. After 15 years in Forensics, Nav received her Commission to the rank of Inspector, where she became a Regional Duty Officer in the Lower Mainland of BC. In 2018, Nav was transferred to Coquitlam Det as the Admin/Community Programs officer. However, Nav’s career recently came full circle, with a return to the Forensics Field, as the Officer In Charge of RCMP Forensic Identification Services in “E” Division (BC).
Nav has a Bachelor of Science (Cell & Developmental Biology) from UBC (1992) and a Diploma in Forensic Technology from BCIT (2006).
Nav has been awarded the RCMP Long Service Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and RCMP Commissioner’s Commendation for Outstanding Service.
Nav is a long time resident of Coquitlam, BC and is a member of Soroptomists International of the Tri Cities. Her passions include cooking, adventure travel and her friends and family.
