Bonita Zarillo, Politician

I am deeply rooted in my community and as a three term City Councilor I have worked tirelessly on equality, housing, and clean air and water. As a woman politician I am focused on building safe and sustainable communities for everyone.

Whether it is addressing the unmet needs of women and girls, persons with disabilities or seniors, I drive systemic change by putting people first. I entered public service so I could advocate for voices less often heard in the hallways of power. I championed buy-local as a tool to grow small business, challenged pipeline corporations to pay their fair share so taxpayers are no longer subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, and completed a successful housing affordability strategy that generated the most rental housing starts in the region.

On Coquitlam Council I serve on the Fraser Health Municipal Government Advisory Council, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Sports Advisory Committee, Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley Indigenous Relations Committees, Tri-Cities Early Childhood Development Committee, Universal Access Ability Advisory Committee, and on the Coquitlam Library Board. I am also on the board of Soroptimist Tricities and have served as a delegate at the Commission for the Status of Women at the United Nations.

Before being elected to government I worked in the grocery industry as a Business Analyst for companies across the globe. I have a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Manitoba, a Human Resource Management Certificate from the University of Calgary and is a Programmer/Analyst from CDI in Montreal. I am also a breast cancer survivor.
